Village Savings and Loan Association Meeting in Ghana
Doris Akorli making a contribution at a 'Banking on Change' Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) meeting at Dabala Junction in the Volta Region of Ghana on 12 September 2012. Members contribute savings weekly and receive a payout commensurate with their inputs at the end of each year. Meetings are held in the open, with all transactions taking place in full view of all members. Akorli recently graduated as a hairdresser, but does not yet have a job - she saves from her "chop money" (ie household allowance).
