Village Savings and Loan Association Meeting in Ghana
Patience Diaba recording members' contributions at a 'Banking on Change' Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) meeting at Dabala Junction in the Volta Region of Ghana on 12 September 2012. Members contribute savings weekly and receive a payout commensurate with their inputs at the end of each year. Members may also access small loans, which many use to support entrepreneurial activities, and they make small insurance contributions which may be drawn upon in the event that an individual member has a financial emergency. Through her participation in the VSLA, Diaba has been able to increase the amount of smoked fish she produces for sale at the local market.
