Village Savings and Loan Association Meeting in Ghana
A member secures her savings at a 'Banking on Change' Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) meeting at Dabala Junction in the Volta Region of Ghana on 12 September 2012. The association's cash box has three locks, with the key for each held by a different member; the box itself is held by a fourrth member. Members contribute savings weekly and receive a payout commensurate with their inputs at the end of each year. Members may also access small loans, which many use to support entrepreneurial activities, and they make small insurance contributions which may be drawn upon in the event that an individual member has a financial emergency.
