Poverty in Burkina Faso
Talato Kabre lives with her husband, Sidpayete Rouamba, and two of their four children in Wapassi, an informal settlement in Burkina Faso's capital, Ouagadougou. Her only income derives from sweeping up sand in a nearby open space with a hand broom, sieving it, and attempting to sell it for construction. A small pile costs CFA 1000 ($1.65); she says she sometimes goes weeks withou selling anything. Sidpayete is a labourer but and is frequently out of work.
