Pognaa Napog Kpintaatobo I
Pognaa Napog Kpintaatobo I during an interview in her village of Baazing in the Upper West region of Ghana on 26 June 2105. A pognaa is responsible, in particular, for the wellbeing of women and children in her area of authority. While the title translates as "woman chief", in practice her authority is subject to a male chief. The role of the pognamine (plural of pognaa) is being revived after having been suppressed during the colonial era, and they are increasingly seen as a force for development.
