Menstrual Hygiene Management in Uganda
Girls skipping at Aputiri Primary School in Eastern Uganda on 31 July 2014. The school participates in a Menstrual Health Management program supported by Plan International, which includes the distribution of reusable sanitary pads made in Uganda by Afripads. Teachers report that absenteeism has fallen sharply, as girls who used rags or cotton wool previously would stay home for fear of leakage and embarrassment. Girls who use Afripads say that they are more comfortable now, and can run and play which they were afraid to do before when they had their periods.
