Gambarana Wuni Yahaya, chief of Gambaga, provides sanctuary for alleged witches, a responsibility that has been handed down through the generations. It is widely believed that he has the power to neutralise witches' powers; thus residents of the town do not fear the alleged witches in their midst believing that they can do no evil while under the chief's power.
