A grandmother holds strings of beads that will be used to adorn a Dipo-Yo (adolescent girl undergoing Dipo). Beads are a form of wealth, handed down from mother to daughter through the generations, and each design has a particular significance. During Dipo, the number of beads worn by a girl is indicative of her family's wealth, as well as the strength of her relationship with them - if she is seen to be respectful older relatives will pitch in and lend her their beads.
